I figured since I'm one of the few hurricane victims who actually has power and the fact that I've had no school for a little over a week that I should update this thing.

Left school 'round 2 on Thursday. Left home at 5. Got to grandparent's place at 9:30 ish and been here ever since.
NO SCHOOL TILL MONDAY. THAS RIGHT MAN!

My sympathies to all those who still don't have power(I know my house still doesn't). I realize that I'm extremely lucky to have some place to evacuate to (even if it is out in the sticks) with aircon, HEB, and Internet.

It's an experience, for sure. And just because I didn't ride out Ike, doesn't mean I haven't experienced stuff. Like, you know, watching the weather on 5 different screens and wondering if I'm going to have a house to return to when the water recedes. Little things like that.
Other stuff too, like succumbing to procrastination and observing the small town mentality and ironies on a daily basis.

I was lucky enough to evac to my grandparents' place 'bout an hour from the border waaaay out in the boonies. Tiny little podunk town with population of about 5,000. One high school. One elementary school. One Wal-Mart. One HEB. One video store. One Bealles. Which makes me wonder why there's three churches....

But I love how different it is.
Like, 'going out to town' here means hopping in the truck and driving out past some fields to the Wal-Mart. Seriously. I find EXCUSES to go to Wal-Mart.

My Trip to Wal-Mart:
Upon arriving, we see about 12 cars in the parking lot. And a few tumbleweeds.
Mom: (In all seriousness) Where is everybody?
Me: (With likewise honesty) Is it open?
Grandma: What are you talking about, the place is packed. All of Fal came to Wal-Mart today! What's the matter with you.
Me: Gosh. Its going to be so hard to find a place to park Grandma, what're we going to do???!
Grandma: I don't know. There must be somethin' going on, I've never seen it so busy!

The conversation spiraled into ridiculous sarcasm from there.

More about my hurricane experience tomorrow! I'm hittin' the hay (THE COUNTRY. ITS GETTING INTO MY HEAD). You know, I might just go and literally hit hay tomorrow (there are a few bales just over the fence)just to say that I've actually done it.
